PT SEMEN PADANG-BERNAMA COLLABORATION FOSTERS JOURNALISTIC EXCHANGE
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 15 (Bernama) -- A courtesy visit by a delegation of media practitioners from PT Semen Padang (West Sumatra), Indonesia, to the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) today provided an opportunity for the exchange of journalistic values and information between the media industries of both countries.
PT Semen Padang representative, Idris S.Sos who led the delegation, said that the visit aimed to enhance the thought processes, provide exposure and enrich the experiences of the delegation from West Sumatra.
“Today, we discussed how operations are conducted at Bernama, as Bernama oversees television, radio and other media. We want to understand how these developments occur so that the media delegation from Sumatra can broaden their perspectives.
“Our hope is that media practitioners from West Sumatra can grow and progress alongside Bernama. Perhaps we can also share information for mutual benefit. I believe initiatives like this can be achieved,” he said.
Among those joining the PT Semen Padang delegation, a cement company with media holdings in West Sumatra, was Widya Navis, West Sumatra Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI), chairperson.
Meanwhile, Head of Broadcasting for Bernama’s TV and Radio Division Mohd Shukri Ishak highlighted the need for the media industry to establish cooperation with neighbouring countries, especially as Malaysia prepares to assume the ASEAN Chairmanship next year.
He noted that such collaboration is essential for increasing information flow and producing news content related to ASEAN.
“With the visit from PT Semen Padang, we see an opportunity for cooperation to exchange news and content, as well as to get to know each other better, thereby strengthening the relationship between our media to become more competitive in facing new challenges,” he said.
Earlier, the delegation was taken on a tour of the Editorial Department, Bernama TV, Digital Media and Bernama Radio to gain a closer insight into the operations of the news agency.
Among those from Bernama who welcomed the delegation were Deputy editor-in-chief (News Services) Nasriah Darus, deputy executive editor (News Services) Elmi Rizal Elias, deputy executive editor (Economic News Services) Nor Baizura Basri, Head of Radio Azlan Idris, Head of TV Nor Hamzeela Md Hambali, Digital Media Editor Noor Soraya Mohamad Jamal and Corporate Affairs Manager Zarina Rozali.
On Oct 8, the first group from the PT Semen Padang delegation, comprising 23 media practitioners led by Commissioner Khairul Jasmi, who is also the Chief Editor of Harian Singgalang, visited Bernama.
