RAYS 2025: PLATFORM FOR ASEAN YOUTH TO DISCUSS SUSTAINABLE FUTURE
KUCHING, March 20 (Bernama) -- Rainforest Youth Summit (RAYS) 2025 that will be held from June 18 to 20, plays a crucial platform for ASEAN youth to drive sustainability and climate action.
Sarawak's Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said with Malaysia’s role as the ASEAN Chair this year, the programme has been included in the ASEAN calendar of events.
“Sarawak is responsible for social and culture initiatives for ASEAN with six conferences expected to be held in the state. However, RAYS 2025 is our own home-grown effort which is very meaningful.
“We will have workshops, sharing sessions involving young leaders in their 20s and 30s that touch on preservation, conservation and about looking after the environment,” he told a press conference on RAYS 2025 here, today.
Abdul Karim said the summit, that is aligned with Malaysia’s ASEAN chairmanship would further position Sarawak as a regional hub for sustainable initiatives.
Themed ‘Living Landscapes: Charting a Sustainable Future’, RAYS 2025 has already attracted 300 registered participants, with expectations to welcome approximately 1,000 local and international attendees to the event.
The summit will be held at Hikmah Exchange Event Centre and its final day at the Sarawak Cultural Village. Over 15 speakers from 12 countries will share insights on key themes such as biodiversity preservation, rainforest wisdom, climate adaptation, youth advocacy and sustainable development.
