MELAKA GEARS UP FOR NATIONAL TVET DAY 2025, STARTING TOMORROW
MELAKA, June 10 (Bernama) -- Melaka will host the National Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Day 2025 for the first time, with the three-day event kicking off tomorrow at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) in Ayer Keroh.
The celebration will be officially launched this Thursday by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, and will also include the launch of a High-Impact TVET Programme Initiative focusing on Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity.
Held under the theme “TVET: The Preferred Career Choice”, the event will feature a range of activities including seminars, workshops, and competitions centred on innovation, technology, and technical skills.
Twelve ministries are expected to participate, including the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), Ministry of Education (MOE), Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKDW), Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS), Ministry of Human Resources (KESUMA), and Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI)
The celebration will highlight four main pillars of the TVET ecosystem - industry, institutions, non-government organisations (NGOs), federal and state government agencies.
In conjunction with National TVET Day, Malaysia will also host the 4th ASEAN TVET Council Regional Policy Dialogue themed “TVET for Rural and Regional Development”, taking place this Wednesday and Thursday.
Delegates from ASEAN member states, Australia, and Germany will explore TVET’s role in promoting inclusive growth, empowering youth, strengthening rural communities, and enhancing innovation, industry collaboration, and national transformation.
Under the Malaysia MADANI framework, TVET has been identified as a national priority. Key efforts include expanding access for rural students, upgrading training facilities, and encouraging more youth to pursue skill-based careers.
In 2024, TVET institutions recorded an enrolment of 436,285 students, with 53.5 per cent of SPM school leavers choosing TVET pathways.
As of May this year, 106,000 applications have been received through the centralised TVET Admissions Unit (UP_TVET), introduced in April. That number is expected to rise to at least 150,000 by the end of June — a clear sign of the effectiveness of government initiatives and a shift in public perception, with TVET increasingly seen as a first-choice career option.
National TVET Day, celebrated annually on June 2, reflects the government’s strong commitment to developing a skilled, resilient, and future-ready workforce.
