MALAYSIAN HIGH COMMISSION IN NAMIBIA HOSTS INAUGURAL ASEAN FIESTA 2025

KUALA LUMPUR, June 12 (Bernama) – The High Commission of Malaysia in Windhoek, Namibia, organised the inaugural ASEAN Fiesta on Wednesday to celebrate Malaysia’s role as ASEAN Chair this year, while showcasing the diversity and values of the regional bloc.

According to the High Commission, the event was attended by nearly 180 individuals, including Malaysians as well as members of the Indonesian, Filipino, Thai and South Korean communities, and Namibians who are part of the Namibian-Malaysian Association.

“This event also served as a platform for the Malaysian High Commission in Namibia to promote ASEAN and its related activities, including cuisine, dance, culture, and other initiatives that strengthen ties among ASEAN communities in Namibia and with the Namibian public,” it said in a statement.

The ASEAN community in Namibia comprises students from higher education institutions such as Limkokwing Namibia Campus, the International University of Management (IUM), the University of Namibia (UNAM), and the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST).

During the event, Malaysia’s Chargé d’Affaires, Datuk Dr Mohamad Rameez Yahaya, gave a general briefing on ASEAN and Malaysia’s role as ASEAN Chair for 2025.

Among the notable guests in attendance were the Doyen of the Diplomatic Corps in Namibia, Yakuubi Hassan, along with officials from Namibia’s Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation, the statement added.

Guests were treated to a Malaysian-style afternoon tea and entertained with cultural performances including the Maumere dance from Indonesia, Tinikling dance from the Philippines, Muay Thai martial arts from Thailand, and Taekwondo demonstrations from South Korea.

Visitors also had the opportunity to explore expo booths set up by each ASEAN community and South Korea.
