PARIS, Sept 1 (Bernama) -- Here are brief updates on Malaysian athletes on the fourth day of the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games, on Sunday (Sept 1).

TRACK CYCLING:

National representatives, Nur Azlia Syafinaz Mohd Zais and Nurul Suhada Zainal (pilot), were unable to secure a medal in the Women's B 3,000 metres individual pursuit (visually impaired) after their race ended in the qualifying round.

Nur Azlia Syafinaz and Nurul Suhada clocked 3 minutes 49.029 seconds, placing eighth in the competition at the Velodrome de Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines.

Only the top two riders advance to the gold medal race, while those finishing third and fourth in the qualifying round compete for the bronze medal.

Great Britain's Sophie Unwin and Jenny Holl emerged as the top riders with a time of 3:17.643s, breaking the previous world record held by Lora Fachie and Corrine Hall from the same country, which was 3:19.483s set at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games.

WHEELCHAIR TENNIS:

It’s the end of the road for the national combination of Muhammad Yusshazwan Yusoff-Abu Samah Borhan as they exit the 2024 Paris Paralympics after crashing out in the second round of the men’s doubles after losing 2-6, 3-6 to fifth seeds Daniel Caverzaschi-Martin De La Puente of Spain at Stade Roland Garros.

Although the Malaysians threatened a fightback in the second set by taking a 3-0 lead, the Spaniards stepped up a gear to storm into the quarter-finals.

Muhammad Yusshazwan and Abu Samah had earlier crashed out in the first round of the men’s singles event, with the former losing to South Korean Im Ho Won 2-6, 3-6 and the latter going down 1-6, 2-6 to France’s Gaetan Menguy.
