PARIS, Sept 3 (Bernama) -- The national pair of Abdul Razzaq Abdul Rahman-Noor Askuzaimey Mat Salim produced a stunning performance against  Artem Kolinko-Nataliia Konenko of Ukraine to revive their chances of advancing to the BC4 (physical disability) mixed doubles quarter-finals at the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games here today.

In the event held at South Paris Arena 1, the Malaysian pair started poorly when trailing 0-3 in the first end before managing to come back in style to win 4-0 in the second end and then confirm a 5-4 victory in all four ends (six balls per end) of Group A action over the couple.

The result saw them making up for their 2-5 loss to Edilson Chica Chica-Leidy Chica Chica of Colombia in the first match of Group A this morning.

Only the top two pairs of each group advance to tomorrow’s quarter-finals.

Speaking to Bernama after the match, Abdul Razzaq was grateful to be able to absorb the pressure after falling behind in the first end against the Ukrainian pair and losing to the Colombian pair earlier.

“We really didn’t want to think too much, just to enjoy the game...whatever’s going to happen, it will, so we’re just the type to face it head-on,” he said.

Meanwhile, national boccia coach Raja Zahrule Azhar Raja Khairul Anwar admitted that only a Colombian victory over Ukraine in the match starting at 6.50 pm this afternoon (12.50 am on Wednesday Malaysia time) can help guarantee his team’s place in the next stage.
