GYEONGJU (South Korea), Oct 31 (Bernama) — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the congratulatory messages from Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) leaders for Malaysia’s successful hosting of the recent 47th ASEAN Summit underscore the country’s ability to lead with wisdom and determination.

He received the commendations during an informal meeting with leaders on the sidelines of the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting (AELM).

“I had the opportunity to have a casual meeting with fellow leaders. We exchanged views on various current and regional issues, including efforts to strengthen a more equitable and resilient economic cooperation, in a warm and friendly atmosphere,” Anwar said in a statement here.

Earlier, Anwar was welcomed by South Korean President Lee Jae Myung, who greeted all APEC economic leaders, followed by a photo session.

Among the APEC leaders present at the AELM were Chinese President Xi Jinping, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, and Chilean President Gabriel Boric.

Malaysia is one of APEC's 12 founding member countries along with Australia, Brunei, Canada, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and the US.

APEC comprises 21 economies, encompassing nearly three billion people, 62 per cent of global gross domestic product (GDP), and 48 per cent of world trade as of 2021.
