KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 8 (Bernama) -- Malaysia, in collaboration with the Selangor state government, has been officially awarded the hosting rights for the 7th Islamic Solidarity Games in 2029.

The Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) in a statement via Facebook said the announcement was made by the Islamic Solidarity Sports Association (ISSA) today.

OCM president Tan Sri Mohamad Norza Zakaria said Malaysia was honoured to be chosen as host of the prestigious Games for the first time, which unites the Islamic sporting community through friendship, excellence and solidarity.

“We would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to ISSA, particularly to the ISSA Games Commission under the chairmanship of Mohammad Tayyab Ikram, for shortlisting Malaysia as one of the potential hosts and for their trust in us,”

“This bid is fully supported and officially endorsed by both the Federal Government of Malaysia and the State Government of Selangor, reflecting a shared vision to promote sports development and unity across the Islamic world,” he said.

Last month, Malaysia, Iran and Uzbekistan had submitted their bids to host the Islamic Solidarity Games 2029.
