TAWAU, Sept 16 -- Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Chaya Sulaiman has promised to bring development to Kukusan and change the face of this rural constituency if elected as its state assemblyman on Sept 26.

"I can see that the Kukusan constituency can do with more planning, especially on basic amenities like roads and drainage, apart from recreational facilities such as futsal courts.

"There is also the problem of villages remaining not gazetted even after being occupied for a long time. This and the need for building Projek Perumahan Rakyat (PPR) have to be tackled," she told Bernama when met during a house-to-house campaign in Kampung Sentosa.

Chaya, one of 43 women candidates in the state election, pledged to serve everyone if given the trust to be their elected representative.

"I want to feel the pulse of the people, and would try to meet the needs of the community in Kukusan,” said the 60-year-old veteran.

Asked on her campaign, Chaya said her team was now doing follow-ups among voters.

"This area is no stranger to me. I am the Kalabakan Wanita UMNO chief and have close ties with the grassroots, frequently going to the ground for programmes, including UMNO’s,” said Chaya, who has been involved in politics for 31 years.

The other candidates in Kukusan are Rina Jainal of Parti Warisan Sabah, Ismail @ Taufik Muin of Parti Cinta Sabah, Lee Boon King of Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah, Wong Jin Soon of Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah, Ismail Idris of United Sabah National Organisation and Rosdiansah Mohd Nor of Parti Perpaduan Rakyat Sabah.
